PRIDE is committed to advancing health equity and improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ communities through rigorous, community-engaged research. We leverage data to generate evidence that informs public health interventions, shapes policy, and addresses the critical social injustices and health inequities facing LGBTQIA+ populations. We believe that transformative research emerges from a lab culture grounded in curiosity, collaboration, kindness, and inclusion. We maintain high standards for scientific rigor, quality, and ethical integrity, and we support one another in reaching these goals through mentorship, open dialogue, and shared learning.

Every lab member is valued first and foremost as a whole person. We are committed to understanding and supporting each individual’s unique career aspirations, personal circumstances, and professional development goals. We recognize that our best work happens when people feel safe, respected, and empowered to bring their full selves to the research process. 1.1 Community Engagement

Our work is grounded in a commitment to community partnerships and social justice. We recognize that meaningful research cannot happen without the communities we serve. We are committed to engaging LGBTQIA+ community members as partners in all stages of research, ensuring our research questions reflect community priorities and needs, translating findings into accessible formats, sharing results with participants and communities, and centering the voices and lived experiences of those most affected by health inequities.

1.2 Collaboration and Mentorship

We believe the most impactful research happens through interdisciplinary collaborations, and we aim to foster collaboration across institutions, disciplines, and community partners while valuing diverse perspectives and expertise. We maintain open and transparent communication through regular lab meetings, one-on-ones, and collaborative platforms, providing constructive feedback with kindness while receiving it with openness. Every lab member is both a teacher and a learner, and we invest in developing technical skills, scientific thinking, and professional competencies while supporting diverse career paths and aspirations. By creating opportunities for mentorship, knowledge exchange, leadership, and independence at all career stages, we build partnerships that strengthen our collective impact. We address conflicts directly and respectfully, and we celebrate successes and support each other through challenges.

1.3 Research Ethics and Data Privacy

We handle participant data with the utmost care and respect for privacy, and we consider the ethical implications of our research questions, methods, and dissemination. All PRIDE Study data is protected under a certificate of confidentiality that prevents investigators and Stanford University from being forced to disclose identifying research data in federal, state, or local civil, criminal, administrative, legislative, or other proceedings.
